5 Activities to Enjoy During Fall in Kansas City

Dust off your riding boots, grab a pumpkin spice latte and head out the door to these fall-themed destinations.

Fall in Kansas City is more than hot apple cider on the private balcony of your downtown Kansas City apartment. Kansas City offers several fun and exciting fall attractions from the bounty of the season’s harvest or scary sites. Take a weekend to enjoy these five highly rated attractions in Kansas City during the fall. 


1. Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead – Overland Park, KS

If you grew up in Kansas City, chances are you have visited Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead. This popular attraction emulated a real working turn of the century farm. Home to over 200 different animals, a fishing pond and vegetable and flower gardens, the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead seeks no only to entertain, but educate kids about farm life. In the month of October, visit Pumpkin Hollow within the Farmstead. Children are invited to enjoy one of the largest pumpkin patches in Kansas. Nearer to Halloween, enjoy the Night of the Living Farm event that includes a fairy princess party, horse-drawn wagon rides and Halloween dancing stage.


2. Weston Red Barn Farm – Weston, MO

Like the Deanna Rose Farmstead, get a feel of a real working farm at the Weston Red Barn Farm. Learn about livestock husbandry as well as how to tend to crops. In the fall the Weston Red Barn Farm hosts Fall Festival to celebrate the collection of the harvest. take a hayride to the large pumpkin patch and pick your favorite pumpkin or fill a basket with apples to take home and enjoy. For an expanded taste of fall, hit up the Pumpkin Market which resides in a 150-year-old mule barn. The Pumpkin Market features specialty gourds, pumpkins, squash and other seasonal décor. Make sure to visit the corn maze! As a bonus, all proceeds from the corn maze are donated to Farmer’s House, a local organization that aids children and adults with disabilities. 


3. Alldredge Orchards – Platte City, MO

If it’s just pumpkins and apples you’re after, look no further than Alldredge Orchards in Platte City, MO. Alldredge offers “U-Pick” apples on Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. Pumpkin picking runs Saturdays and Sundays in October. You can take a leisurely stroll to the pumpkin patch with a wagon or hop aboard the hayride that shuttles guests back and forth. Take a little bit of the farm home from the barn store. Stock up on fall favorite like local honey or gorgeous mums. 


4. Macabre Cinema Haunted House – Downtown Kansas City, MO

If you’re looking to get your heart racing, in a good way visit the Macabre Cinema Haunted House on the southeast corner of 12th and Mulberry street in downtown Kansas City in West Bottoms. Enjoy 45 minutes to an hour walking through a “haunted 1930s movie theatre”. More than 30 dramatic scenes across 4 floors, and a dungeon for the bravest visitors, reenact classic scenes from contemporary and classic horror films. Using exquisite sets, dramatic lighting and detailed costumes the actors at Macabre Cinema Haunted House will send chills up and down your spine. 5. Halloween Haunt – Worlds of Fun, Kansas City, MO

When you think of Worlds of fun, you think of a tame and kid friendly environment. On Fall evenings, Worlds of Fun transforms into a spooky haunt. Open Friday and Saturday nights through October 27th, the Halloween Haunt at Worlds of Fun gives are creepier, more adult feel to a classic midway. Experience the thrill of high-speed rides in the dark and misty evening light and try to avoid (or find!) the 400 monsters lurking around the park. Worlds of Fun recommends buying tickets online and does not recommend this attraction for visitors under 14.
